Southern Kings outscore Eagles in friendly

The Southern Kings outscored the SWD Eagles, six tries to four, in their final Super Rugby warm-up match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.
The home side took an early lead through left wing Alshaun Bock who crossed the line for the first try of the match. Flyhalf Lionel Cronje added the extras as they took a seven point lead.
The visitors struck back with a try of their own as winger Charles Radebe scored their first try. Johnny Welthagen converted to draw level at seven all.
The Kings added a further three converted tries, while the visitor’s added one unconverted try on halftime, as the home side took a comfortable 28 – 12 lead at the break. 
Despite a strong first half from the Kings, the Eagles scored first in the second half to reduce the deficit to eleven points as scrumhalf Boela Abrahams added another five pointer. The conversion was however unsuccessful as they trailed 17 - 28.
Replacement Malcolm Jaer stretched the Kings’ lead when he scored their fifth try. Replacement Pieter-Steyn de Wet was successful with his first kick of the night, as he added the extras to extend their lead to 35 – 17.
The Eagles came back strong as they scored another converted try to stay in reach at 35 – 24.
The game was however put out of reach for the visitor’s as the Kings were rewarded a penalty try. Steyn converted as the match ended 42 – 24.
The Southern Kings will kick-off their Super Rugby campaign against the Jaguares at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday 25 February.
