Greyvensteins/Pam Golding Touchies Tournament

If high pace action packed five minutes a side touch rugby is your thing, then don't miss the Gryvensteins/Pam Golding Touchies Tournament to be held on 11 November at Charlo Primary School in Port Elizabeth.

The event, which is the biggest of its kind in the Eastern Cape is in its sixth year running and event organiser Christo Botha guarantees it will be the biggest to date, with even more teams, sponsors, entertainment, food stalls and beer tent to keep the spectators busy.

The action starts at 8am with the u/13 and Rookie League teams followed by the Beer and Veteran Leagues and will conclude with the Semi-pro and Pro Leagues.

The tournament has grown in popularity from its humble beginning in November 2012 at Londtpark with 10 teams and 2 refs to a well organised event with 60 teams, 480 players, 8 refs, 138 games across 4 fields, 30 sponsors and a new venue at Charlo Primary School in 2017. This tournament is no longer just a local event as it will host teams from as far as Jo’burg and George.

This year Cell C also decided to pull in with their “gig rig” to add to the vibe and atmosphere. They will also provide a cell phone recharge station and a 2017 signed Sharks rugby jersey for a lucky player amongst other give away’s.

Score Energy Drink will have an energy zone along with a recovery zone from Nutritech for the players.

The first out of town sponsor, Living Brands will have two physio’s on duty if any  strapping is required.

Future Kings will also have a rugby day for the junior players.

To have seen the event grow to one of the biggest touch rugby tournaments in the country is enough motivation and driving force for Christo. “To see the smile on an u/13 players’ face after scoring a try and a ‘dankie oom, ons het dit geniet’, is what makes it worth while.”

With R4000 prize money in the Pro League, don't be surprised if you see a familiar face or two as Fabian Juries, Selwyn Davids, Shakes Soyizwapi, Justin Peach, Monty du Mond, Jacques Engelbreght and more recently Junior Pokomela and Curwin Bosch all played in previous tournaments.

Gates open at 8 and entrance to the event will be free.

A special thanks to the following sponsors;

Gryvensteins Attorneys, Pam Golding Properties, Western Rugby, Nutritech, Score Energy Drink, Living Brands, Cell C, Blue Waters Cafe, Bocadillos, Kelway Hotel, Ciro Coffee, John Dorys, Woodlands Dairy, Nedbank, Addo Adrenalin, Old Cash Store, Algoa Toyoya, Irnica Ice, Grootnek Guest Farm, Aquelle, Woodlands Dairy, Every Sun, Powerade, SAB, Coastal Hire, Cerebos Salts, Wenbro Hire, Charka, Eagle Ridge Spur and De Witt Optomitrists.
